Are you an over-stretched, under-resourced in-house counsel?
Our team of senior, former in-house lawyers is here to help!
“Our favourite thing about working with Plume is it doesn’t feel like we’re working with a law firm but rather an extension of our own team. The lawyers have become so embedded in our business, so commercially focussed and so tuned to our risk appetite and way of working.”
“It’s just the entire way that the team do business. I’ve never felt forgotten, I’ve never felt that someone else is too important, everyone’s so nice and everyone puts in 100% of the effort. Working with Plume is a real pleasure.”
“It’s really nice to have found a law firm that is a true extension of myself and the legal team at Huel. It genuinely feels like if we were to recruit another lawyer, they’re all exactly the type of people I’d like to have on my team.”

We know it’ll take some time for you to trust us. We need to demonstrate to you that we know what we’re doing and can deliver really great value, but we’re confident that we can do that.
We’ve been doing this for a really long time, all our lawyers are qualified and regulated, and they’ve all worked in-house before. This means that we understand the challenges you’re facing and how to help you overcome them.
So, whilst signing up to our subscription requires you to take a small leap of faith, we hope that our client testimonials and track record will make the decision easier for you and you’ll quickly realise that you’ve made the right choice!
Not at all!
We work with lots of fast-paced businesses where time is of the essence. We know that to be useful to you, we need to work to your timelines, and we will do so wherever possible. It is not uncommon for us to turn around work the same day, and whilst we clearly can't always do this, we try our best to get things back to you quickly.
Here comes the dreaded lawyer's catchphrase: it depends. Our minimum initial term is two months because we can’t really show you what we can do in less than this and we want to take time to get to know you and your business so that we can provide you with a really great service.
Some clients want us to help with pretty straightforward tasks that require minimal knowledge about your business, product and risk appetite. In those cases, we can hit the ground running.
However, most of our clients want to embed us within their teams and businesses so we can provide maximum value. Whilst this approach does require a time investment on both sides, it means that we can support you with a much wider range of tasks whilst requiring minimal input from you.
We will ask you various questions about your standard positions on various things like indemnities, liability, risk appetite, intellectual property etc at the outset of the relationship to understand your business and we keep a record of this. If you already have a playbook or any form of internal guidance that you use for assessing contracts then even better - send this over.
Commercial contracts are our bread and butter, particularly tech and IP contracts. We can draft them, amend them, negotiate them and light fires with them. The only limitation is your imagination!
We also have employment lawyers who can support your HR team with anything they need and help keep you out of the tribunal.
And we have the data protection expertise to help you stay off the ICO’s naughty list!
Whilst the expertise of all our lawyers is available to you under our subscription, you don't need to use it all. Some of our clients only want our help in one or two areas, and that's completely fine.
This is where we really differentiate ourselves from other law firms, because the answer is: it’s up to you!
Whether you want to use our Plume email address, have us embedded in your systems and emails, use Slack, Teams, Trello, Juro or carrier pigeon, we'll meet you where you are.
No, it’s not possible to roll over unused hours. We can offer the packages we do and the service we deliver based on knowing when our clients are likely to use us. Rolling over unused hours risks us not having the correct capacity in the team to be able to work in the way our clients deserve us to.
However, you’ll be provided with weekly updates on your usage and if we see you’re not using your hours, we’ll request a call to talk about how you can make better use of us.
We also provide different subscription terms to give you greater flexibility to use your hours, for example, if you sign up to our annual plan, you have the whole year to use your hours.
To help you and us with capacity planning, you can only pre-book hours at the lower subscription rate at the beginning of your subscription term.
But we’re not going to abandon you - we know that life in business can be unpredictable and we're here to support you with that! So, when you've used up all of your pre-purchased hours we can carry on supporting you at our slightly higher overage rate, which will be invoiced monthly in arrears.
We offer clients the option to either pay upfront or by monthly direct debit. So, if you book 30 hours for a quarter, you can either pay £6,900 upfront, or £2,300 a month for 3 months. If neither of these options work for you, we may be able to agree a bespoke payment arrangement which will be subject to a small surcharge to reflect the increased admin time on our side.
We're a small business which means we have to manage our cash flow really carefully. It's therefore really important that our invoices are paid on time so we don't need to use the limited resources we have to chase payment. We therefore really appreciate all our clients' cooperation in this.
We appreciate this isn't always an easy decision, particularly at the beginning of your subscription.
Before you start working with us, we'll make a recommendation based on the requirements you've shared with us, and our extensive experience delivering our subscription service.
We’ll email you every week to let you know how much time you’ve used and how many pre-booked hours you have left.
We can also customise our reports to you. For example, some of our clients ask for breakdowns based on projects/customer deals.
We always aim to reply to emails on the same working day, even if it’s just to acknowledge receipt.
We will always aim to turn work around as quickly as possible and within timescales requested by you. Where we need more time, we will always let you know and contact you to agree a revised timeframe.
We’ll allocate one of our lawyers to have primary responsibility for looking after you. We always try to match our lawyers to our clients, for example, Rachael is our go-to lawyer for fintechs and FS companies.
Your lead lawyer won’t be the only one working with you, though. They will involve other members of our team as and when it is necessary, for example, if they don’t have capacity, or if you require advice on something outside their area of expertise.
We also have our amazing Client Services team who you can contact with any questions about your subscription or a piece of work.
We have an internal knowledge sharing system to enable everyone in the team to quickly access relevant information about your business, so your work can easily be shared between us without you having to share the same information with different members of our team.
Whilst we know you’ll be sad if a lawyer you’ve been working with leaves Plume, it certainly won’t mean that we won’t be able to continue supporting you at the same level.
Absolutely – we use Teams ourselves so we can create a chat with you and anyone else you'd like us to, and if you give us access to your Slack, we'll be there!
Yes we do this regularly, but, as you'd expect, it's always subject to the caveat that we're qualified to practise in England and Wales and therefore not able to comment on how the contract could be interpreted in the applicable jurisdiction. But we're happy to provide a pragmatic assessment.
We have a strong network of overseas law firms, so we can always help find someone local to review a contract, if required.
This is a really important question that goes to the very heart of our subscription service.
When you pre-book time with us, we guarantee to work those hours for you. This means that we’re limited on how much time we can allow clients to pre-book, so we never exceed the capacity of our team.
We also prioritise subscription work over non-subscription work, and pre-booked subscription work over overage. So, in short, the only way you can guarantee our support is to pre-book with us.
This is also why we can’t allow clients to roll over any unused hours, because it makes it impossible for us to manage our own resource and ensure we have the capacity to deliver all the hours that have been pre-booked.
